Is the DSD format indeed as good as purported by today’s fashion?

DSD filter and PCM filter are only identical when being reduced at a little over 20 kHz. This is absolutely necessary when using DSD, as the SNR becomes increasingly worse from 30 kHz on, just to be a merely -25 dB at 250 kHz. That is why the SNR in the audioband format is -at best case at 90dB, which effectively means that DSD is likely not capable of resolving 16 bits. The SNR data mentioned in the text are only valid for the PCM mode.

A modifier would need a DSP as input, which is the biggest challenge with DSD since this adds additional disturbances. This situation will be avoided with PCM and a significantly higher resolution. The system dynamic can be obtained. DSD-enabled DAC components will therefore never reach a sound as good as that of a puristic PCM DACs.
